Kirstie Alley Spills All Her Secrets

Kirstie Alley has been on ET all week just blabbing away about her wild ways that ruined her first marriage, how she wanted to run away with John Travolta and her “emotional” affair with Patrick Swayze when they filmed “North and South.”

We don’t know how many of you ever saw “North and South,” but Kirstie played Northerner Virgilia Hazard in the six-part miniseries about two men trying to remain friends during the Civil War. She was the crazy sister of George Hazard (James Read) and Patrick Swayze played Southerner Orry Main who also had a crazy sister named Ashton (Terri Garber). Swayze’s character fell in love with Madeline played by Lesley Anne Down, who was married to a real creep played by David Carradine. We don’t recall Kirstie’s character having all that much to do with Swayze, although she did get called an “abolitionist whore” at the Main dinner table, but not by Swayze.

There really were so many people in the sprawling cast — Genie Francis, Morgan Fairchild, Terri Garber, Johnny Cash, Georg Stanford Brown, Forest Whitaker, even Elizabeth Taylor! just to name a few — it’s amazing that any of them could have an emotional connection with anyone.

Kirstie noted that they were both married at the time and clarified that the emotional connection she claims they had never made it to the physical level, which does kind of make you wonder why she felt the need to bring this up at all. At the time North and South Book I came out, Swayze had been married to Lisa Niemi for about 10 years and Kirstie had been married to Parker Stevenson for almost 2 years.
