UPDATE: We checked but never found an announcement about the opponent or the match. Guess it didn’t work out.
Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin will be the headliner a boxing match at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC on April 15. 2010. His opponent has not been announced yet.
Quillen was out of the ring for 18 months due to series of events that interrupted his promising career. A broken right hand cost him 8 months, then he sustained a hairline fracture of the eye socket and then he was stricken with appendicitis. He returned in February 2010 to face off against veteran Fernando Zuniga. He won by decision.
“I gave myself a B- grade for my fight against Zuniga,” Quillin offered. “I couldn’t expect much more after a 1 ½ year layoff. …”
Quillin’s fans are eagerly awaiting the April 15th bout so they can be in the audience when this Kid Chocolate tosses chocolate kisses to his fans as he leaves the ring. But Peter Quillin did not take his name from the candy. Peter’s father is Cuban and he chose his name after the original Kid Chocolate, who is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time.
In an interview with James Slater on East Side Boxing, Quillin explained why he picked the nickname “Kid Chocolate:”
“I’m half Cuban,” he said, “My dad is from Cuba. I really want to keep the name of Kid Chocolate alive. Along with fighting like he did, I also look quite a bit like him. I’ve been told I have similar facial features. …”

Boxing Nicknames: Kid Chocolate was No Bon Bon … He was called the Cuban Bon Bon. Kid Chocolate was often criticized for his wild party ways during his short heyday, but in spite of them, he managed to rack up an impressive record of 136 wins (51 by knockout), 10 losses and 6 draws. The Kid was no creampuff in the ring (Source: AC)
