Alexandra Kerry, the eldest daughter of John Kerry, Massachusetts senator, and the Democrats’ 2004 presidential nominee, was arrested in Hollywood this morning for allegedly driving while under the influence. Senator John Kerry’s representative was quoted as commenting on the arrest: “Senator Kerry supports his daughter and will have no further comment on a private matter.”
Los Angeles police say the 36-year-old Alexandra Kerry was stopped by police officers on a Hollywood street at about 12:40 Thursday morning. She refused a field sobriety test, including a breathalyzer, but police felt that she appeared to be intoxicated, so she was taken into custody. A blood alcohol test administered later at the police station, revealed Alexandra Kerry’s blood alcohol level to be .06, which is under the California legal blood alcohol limit of .08. John Kerry pointed out, later, that Alexandra Kerry was not originally stopped for erratic driving, but for an expired tag. Police stated that she was actually stopped for a traffic violation.
