Jeff Xie: 2014 Jeopardy Teen Tournament Winner

Jeff Xie in the Winner’s Circle. The Edison, NJ student reacts to his $75,000 win in the 2014 Jeopardy Teen Tournament.

Jeff competed against Erin Christopher and Selena Groh in his quarter-final match where a little blip with his pen got his Final Jeopardy! question disqualified. The “L” at the end of “Eiffel” didn’t show up. It didn’t much matter because Jeff didn’t bet anything and would have ended up in the same spot, with $19,000. That won him a Wild Card position.

He played his semi-final game against William Golden and Sydney Mokel, winning the first finalist spot with $2,200 more than William in second place.

Jeff then played a 2-match final with another junior, Alan Koolik from Boca Raton, FL; and a sophomore, Cooper Lair from Little Rock, AR. At the end of the first match, Alan had a $10,000 lead over Jeff to add to his score in the second match. Jeff brought his A-game on Day 2 and wound up with a $5,000 lead over Alan going into Final Jeopardy! After they both bet everything they had and their previous day’s score was added in, that turned out to be enough to tie with Alan. A tiebreaker decided the winner and, from now on, Jeff Xie will remember the Battles of Shiloh and Colliersville in a bit of a different way than the rest of us!
