Iowa State Beats Oklahoma State in Triple Overtime Thriller
One of the better conference races in college basketball this season is in the Big 12, where five teams are ranked in the AP Top 25. Two of those ranked teams met February 3rd, with #16 Iowa State travelling to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on # 19 Oklahoma State.
Iowa State began the season 14-0 before having an awful (2-4) January. The Cyclones began February on a high note, beating then #23 Oklahoma on the 1st of the month. Oklahoma State had their own issues, dropping three of their last four.
Both teams are in the top ten nationally in scoring so you have to figure a lot of points were going to be put on the board. You would be correct, but that’s partly because the game went into three overtimes before the Cyclones pulled it out 98-97. It was Iowa State’s first victory in Stillwater since 1988.
The Cyclones appear to be getting their bearings back, but while it’s not time to panic, Oklahoma State is in some trouble. They’ve already lost forward Michael Cobbins for the season due to an Achilles tendon injury, and now they dismissed freshman guard Stevie Clark from the team for off the court issues. The Cowboys have four regular season games left against top 25 teams, including two next week at #15 Texas and at home against #21 Oklahoma.
