Havre de Grace Quotes: Boardwalk Empire

Here are some quotes from “Havre de Grace”, the eleventh episode of Boardwalk Empire’s Season 4:

Daughter Maitland: We cross over yet?
Chalky White: Little ways back.
Daughter: You worked for Mr. Boneau?
Chalky: Got myself in a knock-down with some corner boys. Way I was then, look for a fight any ole how. Never even felt that razor. Look down. Hand full of blood like I put’ em in a bucket. I ain’t even know it was mine. Just kept raging.
Daughter: What happened?
Chalky: Man came out. Ain’t never seen no one like him before. Folk jes’… jes’ move out his way. Those boys just fly off. I said ‘sir, thank you kindly.’ Hat back on. Ain’t had the legs to walk three feet. Take me away before the police come. Put me to work. Taught me everything I know. That Oscar.
Daughter: Haven of Grace — that’s what it means
Winston: I’m Winston. Everybody call me Scrapper, I don’t know why. My uncle told me all about you.

Gaston Means: There’s a skunk in your cellar
Nucky Thompson: Who is this?
Means: Wouldn’t you like to know his name?
Nucky: Means, is that you?
Means: $50,000…
Nucky: What are you talking about?
Means: A fair price considering the incendiary nature of the revelation.
Nucky: You wake me up at… what time is it?
Means: $75,000
Nucky: You just said 50.
Means: Did I?
Nucky: Are you drunk, Means?
Means: Sober as a judge.
Nucky: What are you trying to sell?
Means: Information regarding a certain individual I am uniquely qualified to provide…
Nucky: Tell me a name, Means.
Means: $200,000
Nucky: I’m hanging up.
Means: Half a million dollars!

Means: I am unarmed and defenseless! Who has sent you grim-visaged thuggees? Secretary Mellon? The attorney general? That unweaned whelp Hoover?
Officer: United States Capitol Police.
Means: What is the alleged transgression?
Officer: Perjury before a Senate Committee on March 14th of this year.
Means: To what precise aspect of my testimony is exception being taken?
Officer: All of it.

Sid: Is everything okay, boss?
Nucky Thompson: Smell any skunks out there?
Sid: I don’t think they walk on sand.

Daughter: What river?
Chalky: Susquehanna, flows into the Chesapeake
Daughter: Then where?
Chalky: Out to the ocean… across the world… anywhere it want.
Daughter: Ain’t that water lucky?

Oscar Boneau: I know what you thinking… F*ck happened to him?
Oscar: What’s your name?
Daughter: Daughter.
Oscar: That’s your name?
Daughter: Yes sir.
Oscar: Had me a blue tick coon once. Didn’t call him hound.
Daughter: What you look like? I can’t see my hand in front of my face. You got to tell me.
Chalky: She a beauty, Oscar.
Oscar: I don’t doubt it. I do not doubt it.
Oscar: Hey, uh, blue tick. You cook?
Daughter: If I have to.
Oscar: Well, you best get to it.
Oscar: What you come here for, Albert?
Chalky: Never trust no buckras, no matter what.
Oscar: Never trust no browns neither.
Chalky: You was right on both counts.

Gillian Darmody: Mr. Ferry, what if I lose?
Mr. Ferry: Well, our case is still very…
Gillian: But what happens?
Mr. Ferry: Appeal of course. New concerns regarding the suitability of the Sagorskys, positive change in circumstance, the sale of this house, for example. With enough resources, we can tie it up for years.
Gillian: And where is Tommy during all that?
Mr. Ferry: With you. With them. A benevolent institution. Those are all possibilities.
Gillian: Trenton Home for Friendless Children. … Do you know what it’s like there because I do.. I do.

Eli Thompson: Joe Masseria, Meyer Lansky, Luciano — Lucky — Charlie, and the one in Florida
Agent Knox/Tolliver: Vincenzo Petrucelli…
Eli: This dinge they got, the doctor, they’re running it through him.
Knox: Nucky takes order from a colored. That’s the story you’re telling.
Eli: The money. he can’t walk away from that
Knox: Chicago? $10,000 a month to Torrio and Capone.
Eli: Just paying off a debt.
Knox: I need them all in a room, Eli. Making plans to operate in collusion across state lines. That what I came for.
Eli Thompson: You don’t know how Nucky thinks.
Knox: Just bear this in mind. Whatever your excuse, you and I are down this road together. Explain that to a man who never forgets.

Gillian Darmody: You know me, don’t you?
Tommy Darmody: You’re Mee-ma
Gillian: But who am I? Am I your mother?
Tommy: No… She’s gone
Gillian: And your father? Where is he?
Tommy: I don’t know.
Richard Harrow: Don’t touch him.
Gillian: You live here.
Harrow: You don’t (advancing toward her).
Gillian: You wouldn’t. Not in front of him.
Harrow: You just need to leave.
Gillian: Is this how you planned it… with her? To take everything away that matters?
Harrow: I didn’t plan anything.
Gillian: It happened anyway… They’re Jimmy’s. Shouldn’t he have something to remember. Wouldn’t that be right?
Gillian (to Tommy, giving him Jimmy’s dogtags): Keep these safe.
Gillian: There’s a ring on your finger.
Harrow: Yes.
Gillian: Then you’ll both take good care of him.

Oscar Boneau: You come running down here with some easy rider woman by your side cause you don’t know which way to turn. Ain’t that sumpin?
Chalky White: I come to you for help, Oscar.
Oscar: Look around you. How we gonna help you here?
Winston: We all go down the shore. Wash them boys away.
Oscar: Where your sense at?
Winston: Don’t scare me none.
Oscar: Cause you ain’t never done it. Ayleese! This chicken’s dry as grandma’s snatch. Who are you?
Daughter: The easy rider.
Oscar: Easy… Ohhhh. blue tick. Hope she’s worth it, Albert… sho’ can’t cook worth a damn.

Nucky: C*cks*ckin’ Chalky…
Eli: He made his bed…
Nucky: What the bleep happened in that car?
Eli: He’s on the lam or face down in a ditch somewhere.
Nucky: Now I’m sitting across from whatever he is…
Eli: Doctor of something
Nucky: He’s telling me what I have to do… telling me??!!
Eli: Like you’re his boy…
Nucky: There is no goddam peace
Eli: Set it up, Nuck, while there’s still a hand to play.
Nucky: Who don’t you trust? On our side, who don’t you trust?
Eli: Bader.
Nucky: Bader’s nothing I’ll deal with Bader. Means told me there’s a skunk in my cellar.
Eli: The Justice guy? He’s a bunko artist, start to finish.
Nucky: The prohi.
Eli: Knox?
Nucky: You had concerns… what’s your take?
Eli: Far as I can see he likes the money.
Nucky: It’ll be your headache one day… you can deal with all of it
Eli: You off somewhere?

Roy Phillips: You made the right decision. I’m happy for you
Gillian You don’t look happy.
Roy: I don’t? That’s funny. I got what I wanted finally.
Gillian: What’s that?
Roy: Merger’s going through A& P gonna buy us out for a pretty staggering price.
Gillian: Where are you going?
Roy: Wherever they send me.
Gillian: Then what are you saying?
Roy: You’ve been through so much. Things I can’t even imagine. You’re very brave, I mean that. And right now, you look so beautiful.
Gillian; An awfully gallant goodbye.
Roy: I’m not saying goodbye. I do have to leave. I want you to come with me. I want you to marry me. Really marry me. That’s what I want.
Gillian: What’s stopping you from asking?
Roy: Hell, I thought I just did.

Winston: So you the biggety man?
Chalky: How that?
Winston: Uncle say.
Chalky: I do my business
Winston: Tell me all about you… like you blood.
Chalky: Well we go back.
Winston: I ain’t afraid of nothing.
Chalky: (sees Daughter walking away through the window) Why don’t you play awhile?

Daughter: He doesn’t like my cooking.
Chalky: He from a different time, that all.
Daughter; Is he though? What are we doing?
Chalky: Waiting…
Daughter: For what? You got a family. Girl getting married…
Chalky: What that matter to me now?
Daughter: You only think you quit.
Chalky: Don’t I know what I feel?
Daughter: You want those men dead. The one who’s your enemy and the one you called a friend. Don’t you?
Chalky: You wasn’t nothing but a baby in that Storyville crib. Who the man save you?
Daughter; I told you. The doctor.
Chalky: And who the man steal your mama life away?
Daughter: I didn’t know my name. He called me Daughter and that’s who I am. Let’s leave. Let’s run and never look back. All you gotta do is say it.
Winston: My uncle lookin’ for you. He real restless.

Mr. Hewson: Phillips! Phillips!
Roy Phillips: Hewson? What brings you here?
Hewson: Celebrating? You and your whore there.
Roy: Hey. That’s over the line.
Hewson: Over the line? I lost my job because of you, you backstabbing prick. After 15 years! What do I have now? I’ll show you how it feels to lose everything.
(Roy shoots Hewson)
Gillian: Roy we need to go. Go, hurry! Get in. Hurry!

Nucky: You’re caught. Don’t worry we’ll both go down together.
Willie Thompson: What do you think that was about?
Nucky: Wouldn’t take it too seriously. It’s always been pretty easy to get your father’s goat… Just mention Mary Ann Nolan to him.
Willie: Who’s she?
Nucky: 8th grade crush. He wrote her a poem. Happy day when I found it. Can’t blame him for worrying though. You have to think about what’s gonna happen after you’re gone for the sake of all of you. That insurance fellow though. Sounds like a real sharpie.
Willie: I didn’t hear very much of it.
Nucky: You met him? Like your mother said? baby faced? Ever see him before?
Willie: No.
Nucky: You sure now? Whatever you tell me, Will, it’s just between us. That’s what we agreed to.

Oscar: I can’t hardly sleep. All this extra time — you know, when you get old, you ain’t got nothing to do with it.
Chalky: You said done was done.
Oscar: Yeah, but that don’t mean I have to like it. I got the boys runnin’ some action – a little moonshinin’, some numbers, but it don’t amount to much.
Chalky: Where your money go?
Oscar: I ain’t making half as much as you think I took in with the Commodore.. let me take in… I had no choice…
Chalky: He gone now. Three years back.
Oscar: Man, I don’t miss him. I do not miss him. But you did your business with the Thompson boy though.
Chalky: Help him plenty.
Oscar: Yeah, I heard how that buckra paid you back.
Chalky: What I do now, Oscar?
Oscar: You stay here, build something up.
Chalky: That’s for your nephew.
Oscar: Winston ain’t never gonna amount to nothing. You stay here and cut that woman loose before she do you in proper.
Chalky: She ain’t to blame for this.
Oscar: Well if she ain’t, then you are. Ah, damnmit, do what you want. It all winds up the same anyway.
Chalky: What that mean?
Oscar: The day come, everybody gonna run out of road.

June Thompson: He’s drinking again. I wish he wouldn’t. Puts him in a mood. Willie quitting school…
Nucky Thompson: Would you like me to talk to him?
June: No it’ll all be fine. Thank you for a day off.
Nucky: Eli. Eli. (recites Mary Ann Nolan poem) “Tell me what you want to hear / I’ll whisper softly in your ear / all the things I’ll pledge to do / To prove to you my heart is true.”
Eli: Aw, c’mon. Bringing that up for?
Nucky: To see how you react.
Eli: I was 13. She was cute.
Nucky: Maybe I was jealous.
Eli: You were?
Nucky: I didn’t win the Beach Patrol Cup.
Eli: You were good at other things.
Nucky What you suggested — the meeting. I thought it over. You put it together as soon as you can.
Eli. Yeah. I think it’s the best way out of this.

Daughter: I’m awake. I feel so funny.
Chalky: How that?
Daughter: Like a cloud… that’s looking for the sky.
Chalky: Tomorrow we do what you say. First light. We go. Don’t turn back.

Gillian Darmody: No one was there. No one knows. You could just let it go. Just let it go. Get away with it. No one saw you.
Roy Phillips: I saw me. God saw me.
Gillian: You can live with it.
Roy: You can’t know that.
Gillian: Yes, I can… there was no one for me. No one coming to save me. There were things I had to do to survive. It wasn’t my son who died here. It was a boy. An innocent boy. I drowned him. I made up a story. Turned his body to ash. You and I are here together. That’s all that matters. Don’t leave me.
Roy: Who was he?
Gillian: His name was Roger. You can make yourself live with anything.

Oscar Boneau: Your blue tick gone.
Chalky: How you know that?
Oscar: I know every sound this house make including the leaving kind.
Chalky: You ain’t stop her?
Oscar: Why would I?

Sally Wheet: It’s not a conversation unless you say something.
Nucky Thompson: I want out.
