Ace Showbiz reports that writer and director, Barry Levinson has announced that his project “Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father” is back on track. E! News spoke to the “Rain Man” director on Wednesday night at the BAFTA L.A.’s Britannia Awards. He said: “I think we’ve got the money sorted out now. It’s coming together.” And the title too, apparently, because previously we think it was supposed to be “Gotti: Three Generations.”
Levinson said the movie, which stars John Travolta as John Gotti Sr., also focuses on John Gotti, Jr.’s as the heir apparent. Gotti Jr. will be portrayed by Ben Foster.
“It’s not just him, but John Gotti Jr.,” explained the director. “The dynamic that is interesting to me is Gotti Jr. growing up in the shadow of his father and thinking he was supposed to step up as the next Don and then suddenly realizing that this is not a world he wants to be part of and how do you deal with that.”
Levinson indicated the filming will take place in Howard Beach, New York. Al Pacino is supposed to play Neil Della Croce, and Kelly Preston has the role of Victoria Gotti.
If Lindsay Lohan still has a role in it, she’d be playing John Jr.’s wife, Kim. She was originally considered for the role of Victoria Gotti, but that broke down over inflated financial negotiations (that apparently worked with Playboy later on).
Levinson also indicated the filming will take place in Howard Beach, NY, the best setting for the film no doubt. But not for Lindsay. Remember the judge giving Lindsay a hard time about community service? She said she didn’t want to hear any excuses like: “Oh, I couldn’t do it because I was on the set of the John Gotti movie.”
