Giancarlo Stanton Nearly Hits Home Run with Broken Bat

Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has one of the most powerful swings in baseball. In July, he won the All Star Game’s Home Run Derby by hitting 61 homers, but he also hit the 10 longest blasts in the competition . In the Marlins’ game against the San Francisco Giants on August 9th, Stanton put on his most recent feat of strength. In the first inning, he made contact with a pitch from Giants lefthander Matt Moore, breaking his bat, but sending it deep to left and almost hitting it out of the park. Stanton ended up with a RBI double.

The Marlins scored twice in the inning and made it stand up for a 2- 0 victory. The Marlins are in second place 6 ½ games behind Washington the N.L. East, while the Giants loss plus the Dodgers victory over Philadelphia put L.A. and San Francisco in a tie for first in the N.L. West.
