Boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. got 90 days in a Las Vegas courtroom on 12/21/11 after pleading guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges.
The charges stemmed from a September 2010 incident when Mayweather was accused of abusing his girlfriend Harris in front of two of their three children. The justice of the peace felt jail time was highly appropriate since Mayweather had three previous domestic violence arrests involving Harris, as well as three other cases with another woman who also is the mother of one of his children and has never suffered any consequences to speak of.
He has quite a record of violence outside the home as well, with a 2002 conviction of misdemeanor battery involving a fight with two women; a no contest plea to misdemeanor assault and battery for a bar fight in Grand Rapids.
Mayweather also is facing a separate misdemeanor harassment charge from an incident with a homeowner association security guard next week. He is expected to plead no contest.
The 90 days is only half of what he was supposed to get because the sentence was really 6 months, but the judge suspended half the term. He also got credit for 3 days time served. He’s got 100 hours of community service coming up, has to pay a $2,500 fine and participate in a year’s worth of domestic violence counseling.
The 34 year old boxer’s attorney, Karen Winckler, is considering appealing as she has a few bones to pick with the terms and conditions.
How the jail time will affect a future fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao remains to be seen. Mayweather will have to get his license renewed first and he will be asked if he was convicted of any misdemeanors or felonies. They certainly are piling up, ain’t they?
