Current champ Seth Wilson has now won 8 games and $191,701. Today he goes for a 9th win that will put him over the $200K mark. He has to beat these two players first: Anne Campbell, from Frederick, MD; and Damien Shirley, from Arlington, VA.

Round 1 Categories: Boy Scout Law Words – A Look at Books – Episodes of the Sitcom, In-Laws – You Can’t Fight – City Hall

Damien found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “City Hall” under the $400 clue on the 10th pick of the round. He was in a second place tie with Anne. They both had $800, $1,000 less than Seth’s lead. He bet $500 and thought it was Pitt. That was WRONG.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS DAEDALUS?

According to some accounts of the Daedalus myth, murder was the reason the master craftsman had to leave Athens. He knocked off his apprentice because he wanted to stay No. 1 in his profession. In Crete, Daedalus designed the labyrinth at the behest of King Minos, “a notorious ingrate”, as MythWeb calls him in its account. Daedalus was imprisoned in his own creation by King Minos with his son, Icarus. They managed to escape with wings that enabled them to fly, constructed of course by Daedalus. Icarus failed to heed his father’s navigation warnings and went too near the sun, causing his wings to melt. He fell into the sea and died.

Daedalus made it to Sicily with King Minos still hot on his trail. This time, it was Minos who landed in hot water– literally.

Damien wrote down Mithra. He lost $5,499 bet and had a dollar left.

Anne got it right with “Daedelus.” Her $3,499 bet brought her up to $12,499.

Seth also got it right with “Deadalus.” He bet $4,000 so he won the match with $18,100. His 9-day total is $209,801, putting him at the top of the ToC list in winnings and in a tie with Buzzy Cohen for number of games won.

Congrats once again seth. I knew you would go over 200000 dollars. Keep it going! I was a huge fan of mythology and read icarus and dadelus. But who exactly is mithra? Has anyone heard of mithra and what he or she does?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, I guess wikipedia is a good start to get an overview on Mithra who I never heard of and doesn’t seem to be connected with Ancient Greece. Here’s a link to their article on it.

Btw, vj is Peres on your clue watch list? With his death I’m thinking his name may show up soon.

    • VJ says:

Thanks for bringing it up, Jacob. I agree they will have a clue on Peres. Maybe even a category. He’s been in about 5 regular clues but not since 2011. He had an FJ that same year..

Uzbekistan’s president (Karimov) died this month. He had 2 clues, the last in 2013 and the one before that was a DD in 2009 .

  8. patty1930 says:

    Congratulations, Seth.

  9. Leena says:

Did any of you notice how Seth is the king of the ToC list, like Matt Jackson did. He is (probably going to be) the only player to play regularly in the season of his ToC, like Matt Jackson. Have you noticed how awesome he is at Jeopardy? Yes, and that was pretty obvious.

  10. jacob ska says:

It’s official. Seth is the King on the list of TOC.

Congrats Seth. Well-deserved by someone who demonstrates not only broad knowledge but CLASS.
