WHO IS WALT WHITMAN?

The line comes from Section 6 of “Leaves of Grass.” A child asks the simple question: “What is the grass?” The poet “realizes that, the more we think about what the grass truly is, the less we know. Maybe, in the way it manages to grow everywhere out of the soil (which is always composted death), the grass is the “flag of my disposition,” the very sign of the poet’s optimism….” (University of Iowa: Whitman Web)

Lauren bet $4,000. That brought her up to $18,400.

Ivan bet $5,000 and won the match with $23,200. He is the new Jeopardy! champ.

“I celebrate myself, and sing myself”, so the clue writers don’t have to!

    Seriously.

  2. Lou says:

Betsy should have bet only 3000 in order to stay in the game and not bet it all on the daily double, but she played valiantly. Also, congrats to the two remaining contestants on getting walt whitman. I remember this answer was used in a similar game in 2015 when Scott Lord first appeared in july at that time despite no one else getting final jeopardy. Also, Vj, you took literature back in high school right? Do you know which poems from walt whitman you liked?

    • VJ says:

I’ve been a poetry lover all my life, Lou, though I’ve never been a Walt Whitman fan. My grandfather recited poems he knew by heart and read them to me from the time I could talk. By age 5, I could recite Robert Louis Stevenson poems by heart myself. I like story poems the best.

Really? That is so amazing. You have such a natural talent at poems, and like you I have a natural talent at remembering and reciting poems by heart. To me I think this is a special gift we have been given at a young age or something, don;t you agree VJ? Also, the first two weeks of september has been seen with a minor leader curse, but let’s hope Ivan can make a week of wins next week.

        • VJ says:

yeah, I think maybe it runs in families. With my son, it was songs. He just knew so many songs by heart by age 5, other kids would ask him to sing. My little granddaughter is only 2.5, and she is always going around singing. Even though it’s baby talk, you can recognize the melody and she even makes up her own versions. lol

I have an idea, why don’t you make the picture smaller for two contestants left next time we have a two player final jeopardy?
