WHO IS OBADIAH?

Obadiah means “servant of God” or “servant of Yahweh.” There are at least a dozen people named Obadiah in the Bible. One wrote the shortest Book (the 31st and the 4th of the minor prophets).

There are a ton of articles and quizzes out there on the length of Bible Books. A lot of lists can vary depending upon if they are going by number of chapters, number of verses or number of words. Even the number of words can vary, depending on the version and translation! On BibleOverview.com, Jeffrey Krantz made 2 infographics on the shortest and longest by word count in the original language, and then he made a complete chart of all the Books of the Bible. Those lists don’t separate the Old from New Testament. Silkworth.net has a chart that goes by chapters and it does give separate stats for the Old and New Testament.

Andy wrote down Esau. He lost his $1,738 bet and finished with $1,262.

Ellen came up with Malachi. She bet and lost it all.

Angela wrote down Joel. She lost $2,100 but won the match with the remaining $11,800. She is the new Jeopardy! champ.

I’m certain that Andy never heard of the red baron or the computer game back in the 90s. VJ, do you know if any of your children ever learned about WW1 fighter planes.such as the fokker Dr. 1, sopwith triplane, or sopwith snipe? Also, I presume none of the contestants are bible readers, but I hope Angela can make a comeback

@Lou, I would say only my son would have had an interest in fighter planes. Maybe he knew that game you mentioned. The ladies did know the minor prophets — they just didn’t know the shortest book.

I didn’t want to predict a 3-way strikeout on that because I thought someone might have read the minor prophets in Bible class and just knew it but I thought it was a tough FJ. It’s kind of funny that I linked to just about everything but the Book of Obadiah itself in case anyone wants to read it. Coincidentally, it is actually about vengeance on the Edomites, the descendants of Esau.
