WHAT IS THE TRANS-SIBERIAN RAILWAY?

After the FJ music, Alex Trebek said: “It would help you immensely if you knew where the Amur River was.” So let’s take a look at the river first. Located on the border of China and Russia, it is the 10th longest river in the world. In China, it is known as “Heilungjiang” (Black Dragon River), also the name of a Chinese province. waterbasedata.com has more info, including a video of a “monster” sturgeon! J-Archive only has one prior clue from 1994 with the name of the river in it: “The 1689 Treaty of Nerchinsk fixed China’s border with this country along the Amur River valley.”

The original 1916 Khabarovsk Bridge, spanning the Amur to accommodate the Trans-Siberian Railway, wasn’t quite 2 miles. In 1999, a longer bridge was built alongside the old one. It connects Imeni Telmana in the Jewish Autonomous Oblast region of Russia to Khabarovsk, Russia. Currently, a new bridge is under construction across the Amur that will connect Russia to China. It is expected to be opened in 2018.

Buzz wrote down the Orient Express. He bet and lost it all.

Joe had the TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse). That cost him $4,001, leaving him with $5,199.

Chantelle got it right. She bet $5,202 and became the new Jeopardy! champ with $18,402.

So much for that response that confiscated $1,200 away.

I could swear that during the chat Alex addressed Joe as ‘John Nguyen.’ And there was yet another reversal because a wrong answer got by him. I am more alarmed than anything else that his hearing and focus seem to be going downhill.

I.heard of this river the Heilongjiang, still.Congrats to chantelle for that solve. Trains from Beijing passes to russia via Heilongjiang, is that right, VJ? Or does it start at harbin?

    • VJ says:

Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang Province, Lou. (boy, am I glad I don’t have to spell that every day).

Here’s a link to an article about the province with a caveat– there’s some gruesome stuff on there about war crimes.

I was hoping that Joe would win again today.

    • VJ says:

I sort of couldn’t help wishing Buzz would win and then win enough to get in the ToC with Buzzy. lol

Congrats to Chantelle on the single solve!

Did anyone else see a Father’s Day commercial for the Jeopardy! store between the last round and FJ? If you buy $100 worth of stuff, Alex is throwing in one of his ties.
