The Final Jeopardy question (6/10/2015), in the category “Historic Quotes” was:
During the 1976 Pres. campaign, Ronald Reagan said of this: “We built it, we paid for it, it’s ours and we are going to keep it.”
New champ Phil Arevalo won $23,600 in yesterday’s match. Today he takes on these two players: Darren Harris-Fain, from Prattville, AL; and Martha Holland, from Newtown, PA.
Round 1: Darren found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Discoveries” under the $800 clue. He was the only one with a positive score: $2,000. Phil had zero and Martha was in the hole for $600. He bet $1,500 and thought it was Ebola. That was WRONG.

Darren finished in the lead with $3,900. Phil was second with $2,400 and Martha was last with $400.
Round 2: Darren found the first Daily Double in “King Arthur” under the $1,600 clue. He was in the lead with $14,700, $7,900 more than Phil’s lead. He bet $3,300 and he was RIGHT.

Darren found the last Daily Double in “Western Hemisphere Rivers” under the $800 clue, with only one clue left after it. In the lead with $19,200, he now had $8,400 more than Phil in second place. He bet $2,700 and he was RIGHT.

Darren finished with a runaway $21,900. Phil was next with $10,800 and Martha was in third place with $3,200.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
“The Reagan Era: A History of the 1980s” says that this remark about the Canal was Reagan’s biggest applause line on the campaign trail in 1976. Reagan’s position on the issue and a variation of the quote appears in his “To Restore America” speech on March 31, 1976. Reagan lost the Republican nomination to Gerald Ford who was defeated in the election by Jimmy Carter. Carter entered into a treaty that eventually gave the Panama Canal to the Panamanians.
Martha got it right. She didn’t bet anything so she finished with $3,200.
Phil didn’t have an answer and he didn’t bet anything either. He stayed at $10,800.
Darren also got it right. He bet $100 and won the game with $22,000. Congrats to Darren!
Darren is an English professor. His students call him the Dark Lord because he asked them to. Trebek said he would have went with Prince of Darkness.
Did anybody catch that commercial before the game started where the guys were both in the hole and Martha was at zero. Trebek said “I think you’re missing the point of the game. It’s to give me correct responses.” It was cut out of the show though.

REALLY my last comment,professor! Had Phil been right and wagered everything he would have ended up with 21.600. Darren had only 300 more, so 299 would have been the maximum save bet. 100 made it an even 22 K.
How much should he have wagered in your opinion? More than 299 and risking his runaway? Does that answer your question? Well, maybe you had a late night ? :):):)
