TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS DARTMOUTH?

The BBC has an article on the River Dart and the many places it has lent its name to: “Dartmoor, Dartmouth, Dartington, Dartmeet…”

New Hampshire’s Dartmouth College got its name in a far more indirect way. An intro to the school’s history on its website has the lowdown on that. When founder Eleazar Wheelock sought a charter for the academy, he wrote to John Wentworth, Royal Governor of the Province of New Hampshire. In addition to asking Wentworth to “use the word College instead of Academy,” Wheelock wanted to name it after Wentworth, “but the governor modestly preferred to name it for his English friend, the Earl of Dartmouth.”

Holly got it right. She bet it all and finished with $12,000.

Dennis came up with Avon. That cost him $500 and left him with $11,100.

Susannah also got it. She bet $5,000 and won the last semi-finalist spot with $19,000. Holly nabbed a Wild Card spot.

Great play by all players. Although Dartmouth is a great college, VJ do you have any close friends that graduated from colleges close to you? If so, what fields of study did they go into?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, idk, the last time I can remember having a conversation with a friend about colleges was really about her kid

LOL, Rhonda. But I knew Debra’s Special Tin even though I have never tried it and I bet you did, too.

I’m really not a big cookie lover in spite of the recent mini-vanilla wafer binge. That’s the twins’ fault. 😀

I’ve never tried Mrs. Field’s either, VJ, although I do have a terrible sweet tooth, particularly for chocolate. That’s my mom’s fault lol.
