WHAT IS “THE OMEN”?

From IMDB Trivia on the original film: “The Omen” was sneak-previewed in the USA on June 6, 1976. Damien Thorn, the devil child, was born at 6 am on June 6, 1970. The film takes place from June 6, 1970 to 1975.

From IMDB Trivia on the remake: “The film was released to coincide with the date 06/06/06 in order to spark interest and gain publicity.” Other items note that Harvey Stephens, the original Damien, had a cameo as a tabloid reporter and Mia Farrow, the mother of a devil child in “Rosemary’s Baby” (1968), played Damien’s nanny.

Trevor thought it was “The Exorcist” (1973). He lost his $2,600 bet and finished with $6,000.

Jane got it right. She bet $8,602, bringing her up to $17,402.

Greg picked “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” the title of the 2003 remake. (“Chain Saw” was 2 words in the 1974 original). He lost his $2,600 bet. That left him with $11,199 and made Jane the new Jeopardy! champ.

Uh, the image and triple stumpers for this game should be up later today.

  2. michael says:

forget the part about would both answers be correct i meant should jeopardy have specified UK or US

    • VJ says:

I don’t think the way the clue was worded was misleading and I kinda think if they specified U.K. in the clue, it may have been more confusing to the contestants.

In any event, there are a lot of places online that say there were sneak previews of the movie in theaters across the U.S. on 6/6/1976, even though that’s not the official U.S. release date. Here’s one on AFI’s website (but I linked to the IMDB Trivia item instead because this is in the notes and you really have to be looking for it):

“The filmmakers forfeited $2,348,892 in box office sales by holding two sneak previews in 547 theaters on 6 Jun 1976 and 10 Jun 1976….”

  3. michael says:

according to wikipedia and other web sites the omen was released on 6/6/1976 in the UK and 6/25/1976 in the US would both answers be right

  4. Lou says:

How did Greg miss this? I thought he would have been like Arthur Chu or something. But oh well. At least Greg gave it his best though. Still it would be great to see another multi game champion before the teacher’s tournament again. By the way, vj, what scary movies have you seen in the past well at least a few that you could remember aside from Texas chainsaw Massacre and Saw series

    • William Weyser says:

I’m not a big fan of scary movies.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, I don’t watch much in the horror dept. Never saw the Texas Chain Saw films. I’ve been around when other people were watching them and seen parts here and there, like the Nightmare on Elm Street stuff, Tales from the Crypt and so on. I saw the first Chucky movie and that one was more comedy to me than horror.

@Jlane, my grandson helped me with this recap. He got FJ before the music even started playing!

I got to see the first 9 clues, then it got preempted for a press conference.

    • Jlane says:

Your grandson did a great job helping you with the recap, VJ – He’s obviously a very bright fellow who takes after his grandma! 🙂
