WHO IS JULIA ROBERTS?

“The first woman to break into the $20 million-a-movie club (for ’00’s Erin Brockovich), Roberts, 35, has made as much as $50 million a year (though not in ’02, when she took pay cuts for Full Frontal and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind). But as a big-screen big shot, Roberts … doesn’t have the extra earning power of TV and music megastars.” (People.com: Earn, Baby, Earn — includes an estimated breakdown of all the bites that come out of that gigantic payday. You won’t believe the net!)

Tim bet $9,999 and finished with $19,999.

Gautam bet $5,401, finishing with $17,001.

Jacqueline bet $6,300 bet so she won the match with $23,300. Congratulations to the new Jeopardy! champ. It was a very well-played game.

Jacqueline Hawkins is an English professor. During the chat, she talked about a dream her husband had where his mother made everyone, including the producers and Alex, do the chicken dance when Jacqueline went on the show. Alex said “ain’t gonna do it.”

I really hope someone’s gonna be on a run. But hey! Who can argue? It’s just the plain luck the board gives you.

  2. Eric S says:

    Leena,
    your absence has been conspicuous.

Gautam didn’t recognize 11600 to 17000 for the leader as a 2/3 game, he should have wagered $800 or less to get the win on a TS.

    • Eric S says:

To clarify, of course that suggested wager actually covers the double stump: Gautam’s response actually becomes irrelevant to the order of the game. It does, however, leave him open to being overtaken by the third place better. One then must wonder of the probability of the leader missing, but third player correctly responding. Clearly, aaaa finds that low.

    • William Weyser says:

Yeah, my reaction to Gautam wagering $5,401, and trying to cover a zero wager by Jacqueline by a dollar was “Not enough to have a chance to win this game against Jacqueline, and it’s also not enough to cover a double-up by Tim.” It kind of reminds me of 1 time, a shade over a year ago, and it was on St.Patrick’s Day, when returning champion Thad McCollum had $12,400, Jen Cosgrove was in the lead with $15,200 and Gordon Graham had $14,400. All 3 players got it right, Thad wagered $12,000, Gordon knew how to play to win and doubled up correctly, but for some reason, Jen wagered $10,000,which does cover a double-up by Thad, but the only way that Jen wins in this case is if Gordon misses, but instead, Gordon, you’re lucky! Jen, not so much!

Good fast-paced game. However, Gautam proved something with his bouncing around the board strategy. IT DOESN’T GUARANTEE A LEAD even when a player finds both DDs and get them correct. Jacqueline’s consistency kept her in the lead and to a win. 🙂 🙂

Let that be a lesson to the “bouncers.” It doesn’t always work in your favor.

    • VJ says:

Yeah, right, a lot of good that first DD did him!

      • jacob ska says:

I imagine it must hurt to hit all 3 DDs, get them right, and end up in 3rd place. Says a lot about wagering. Don’t know why he wagered so little in fj. Must have felt uneasy about the category.

But at the end during the chat with Alex they all seemed happy. It was a good group of contestants.

  5. VJ says:

This was some game. Gautam was visibly frustrated with Jacqueline’s buzzer speed. She was cool as a cucumber.

In the first round, Tim was running that “Who’s the Mama” category. Then he got to the $1K clue (“Jason Schwartzman”) and he knew the answer but thought he had to remember her first name. While he was having a big chuckle about that, time ran out and he lost! I wondered if anyone was going to tell him after the show that he didn’t need to know the first name, but then Gautam only gave Livingstone on the next DD to come up, so he probably figured it out then!

    • VJ says:

P.S. Possible spoiler or mistake in the Howdies on Jacqueline.

      • Cece says:

I don’t know why, but Tim reminded me of Alan Alda.

        • VJ says:

Did he really, Cece? I told my son that he reminded me of Art Carney.

        • Cece says:

I had to look up Art Carney (had no idea who he was, lol). Anyway, nah…I don’t see it. I see Alan Alda, or maybe it’s Tim’s demeanor…something.

        • jacob ska says:

Probably because of his joke about if he lost he’d at least die with his boots on. I thought that was funny and clever.

        • Cece says:

Funny dude. I liked his disposition — sounds like a guy one would enjoy talking to at a party.

        • VJ says:

Here is a tweet from Tim: “I was supposed to answer Billy the Kid and let Alex say William Bonney but I tried to trip him up”

          And one from Gautam:
“My greatest regret is not saying Livingstone I presume?”

        • Cece says:

Hilarious. These guys are having a lot of fun.

Finally a triple solve. We are on a roll this week so far. 7/9 fj = 77.8%. Haven’t seen that in a long time. Congrats Jacqueline. Holding it down for the professoriate!
