The Final Jeopardy question (3/10/2016) in the category “Words & Their Uses” was:

Originally an electronics word for an output signal returning as input, today it means “criticism” or “evaluation”.

New champ Katrina Mundinger won $7,400 yesterday. In her second game, her challengers are these ladies: Danielle Stillman-Diederich, from Houston, TX; and Norine Noonan, from Palm Bay, FL.

Norine found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “It’s Hyphenated” under the $1,000 clue. She was in the lead with $3,200, $600 more than Danielle in second place. There were only 4 clues left after it. Maybe that’s why she exclaimed “Holy crap!” She bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Norine wrote down “backspace.” She lost $4,000 bet and was left with $1,800.

Danielle got it right. Her $5,000 bet brought her up to $12,000.

Even with a picture, this triple stumper in the “I Sing” category cost both Norine (Trisha Yearwood) and Danielle (Carrie Underwood) $1,200. “She’s been named Academy of Country Music Female Vocalist of the Year six times in a row.” Maybe if they had included one of her songs in the clue?

No, I'm not Trisha Yearwood or Carrie Underwood

Appreciate what you’ve done – not only in this situation but in the past also. It’s important that anyone following the comments posted can respond thoughtfully and respectfully without being intimidated.

  2. EricS says:

I’ve brought myself to say “Holy Carp!”, as it seemingly offends no one. That is rare for me.

Aside from the scores being low, I thought this was a fairly even match. I really was rooting for Danielle to run the Bible category. 4/5 wasn’t bad though. Norine realized her fj response was incorrect based upon the way she shook her head before her response was revealed. The ts on Brooklyn broke my heart though.

Katrina lives to see another game. Congrats Katrina.

They’re all sentenced to read “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry” — ALL OF IT!

      Feel better, Jacob?

      • jacob ska says:

VJ, Knowing your affinity for poetry you would want them to read the poem. However, I would have preferred that they remembered that Walt Whitman lived in Brooklyn and served as the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.

        • jacob ska says:

Btw, I love how Katrina’s face lit up on the DD for O Captain! My Captain! She couldn’t wait to say Abraham Lincoln

        • VJ says:

I’m just kidding. I’m really not a fan of Whitman’s stuff. Personally, I always thought he could have come up with a better line in O Captain than

          “But O heart! heart! heart!”
          .

        • Cece says:

I don’t get the writers’ fixation with Whitman.

          “Holy crap!”—loved it :):)

        • jacob ska says:

@Cece, You are correct about the Jeopardy clue writers having a fixation on Walt Whitman. He was a clue in December, January, February, and now this month. That’s a bit too much.

      • Cece says:

I started reading Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, and was like, are you kidding me? I now know what you meant by “ALL OF IT!”.

        • VJ says:

LOL! After seeing that, can you imagine attending a Walt Whitman poetry reading?

        • Cece says:

Lol! No, I don’t wanna imagine that. Maybe the writers should be the ones sentenced to read that daily. That should stop their Whitmania.

        • VJ says:

It would probably make them want to torture us even more. LOL. Seriously, though, they did slack off on him for a while. Now that’s he got a whole category, maybe we won’t see him again for a couple of months.

        • jacob ska says:

          I love it. Whitmania. 🙂 🙂

        • Cece says:

@jacob, I didn’t know he served as the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. If it has already come up in J!, I don’t recall it (is it my brain blocking him out?), but if it comes up again, I’ll know it. 🙂

        • jacob ska says:

@Cece, it’s another usesless factoid we were taught in NYC schools back in the day. In English classes they focused on famous writers from NY like Walt Whitman, Washington Irving, etc., in addition to learning about writers from other countries. We had a grueling curriculum which is why we spent so many hours and months in school. I believe we spent more time in school than any other school. lol. No snow, snow storm, or anything else closed our school down. 🙂 🙂

    • rhonda says:

Poor Norine, I was rooting for her to win.
I sure do sympathize with her on the FJ!

  4. Dalton Higbee says:

Holy crap indeed to one of our friends in Palm Bay Norine Noonan.

    • Dalton Higbee says:

Also, I was hoping her to win.

    • VJ says:

I was rooting for Norine too. LOL. Just to see what she would exclaim if she won :):)

    • Dalton Higbee says:

Well, how about you shut up, VJ?

      • VJ says:

You just lost your commenting privilege.

        • norine says:

That was a harmless comment by Dalton. Too bad he lost his commenting privilege.

        • Sandy says:

          @norine

Nah, it’s about time he did lose it. Not that comment in itself, but the lead up to it. Enough with the ridiculous Dalton comments.

        • VJ says:

@Norine, Well, dem’s da breaks. I have been quite patient with the Dalton/Richard tag team. Just the other day I told them both to knock off the rude remarks to each other so what does Dalton do? He tells me to shut up. #troll

PS – I have never been rude to Dalton and he had no reason in the world to tell me to shut up.
