Final Jeopardy: The U.S. Government (2-7-17)

The Final Jeopardy question (2/7/2017) in the category “The U.S. Government” was:

Sawyers are an important part of the work force of this agency founded in 1905.

New champ Jill Rausch won $12,801. Today she is up against these two ladies: Lauren Michniacki, from Chicago, IL; and Jody Jabbora, from Las Vegas, NV.

Round 1 Categories: Puzzlers – North American History – On the Movie’s Soundtrack – Cities – Captains – Of Industry

Jill found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “North American History” under the $800 clue, with 6 clues left after it. She was in the lead with $5,400, $2,000 more than Lauren in second place. She bet $1,800 and she was RIGHT.

Jill finished in the lead with $9,200. Jody was second with $3,600 and Lauren was last with $2,000.

Round 2 Categories: In the First Place – Boots – Man Booker Prize Winners – Eye Health – Milestone Birthdays 2017 – A 3 “S” Assessment

Jody found the first Daily Double in “First Place” under the $1,200 clue, with a dozen clues still to go. She was in second place with $8,800 at this point, $3,600 behind Jill’s lead. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT, although she gave them more info than they asked for.

This area in the title of perhaps the most famous WWI novel saw the war’s first major gas attack on April 22, 1915. show

We didn’t get to that last Daily Double today. It was in the “Man Booker Prize Winners” category, under the $1,600 or $2,000 clue most likely. It’s not impossible, but we don’t think it was under the $400 clue.

Jody finished in the lead with $12,800. Jill was next with $12,400 and Lauren was in third place with $7,600. There was an $800 reversal right before FJ clue that affected Lauren and Jody. (see below). The scores going into FJ after that were:

Jody $13,600, Jill $12,400 and Lauren $9,200.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE?

On its website, the U.S. Forest Service says “Congress established the Forest Service in 1905 to provide quality water and timber for the nation’s benefit,” and “later directed the Forest Service to broaden its management scope for additional multiple uses and benefits and for the sustained yield of renewable resources such as water, forage, wildlife, wood, and recreation.”

They also have a page dedicated to their “Saw Policy,” explaining the duties of sawyers.

Lauren was going for the Dept. of Transportation but ran out of time. She lost her $6,800 bet and finished with $2,400.

Jill came up with the FDA. She lost $6,001 and had $6,399 left.

Jody got it right. Her $12,000 bet brought her up to a whopping $25,600 and made her the new Jeopardy! champ.

Final Jeopardy (2/7/2017) Jill Rausch, Jody Jabbora, Lauren Michniacki

They wanted “Denver boot.” Lauren said “parking boot” and Jody said “Oregon boot.” When they chose to accept Lauren’s response, Jody’s was treated as if it never occurred.

A triple stumper from each round:

ON THE MOVIE’S SOUNDTRACK ($1000) Adam Levine singing “Lost Stars”, Keira Knightley doing “Tell Me if You Wanna Go Home”

IN THE FIRST PLACE ($800) He staged his first Wild West show in North Platte, Nebraska on July 4, 1882

Congrats to Jody on getting FJ and her big payday.

I got a laugh out of Alex saying he always gets the E right on the eye chart. That is actually the only letter I can see out of my left eye. But the good news is that I just got new glasses and my eyesight has not gotten worse. My daughter got me an eye exam and the glasses for a present to make sure I would go. What a kid!
