The last three quarter-final contestants are: Alex Sventeckis, a senior (Ball State) from Fischers, IN; Erika Sloan, a sophomore (Middlebury) from Simsbury, CT; and Maria Khrakovsky, a senior (Ohio State) from Columbus, OH.

Maria found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “The Stage” under the $800 clue, the second from last clue to go. She was in the lead with $6,400, $1,800 more than Alex in second place. She bet $2,000 and guessed Paris. That was WRONG.

Alex finished in the lead with $4,600. Maria was second with $4,400 and Erika was last with $1,200.

Alex found the first Daily Double in “Languages” under the $800 clue. He was in the lead with $5,000, $600 more than Maria in second place. He bet $1,200 and guessed Navajo. That was WRONG.

Erika found the last Daily Double in “Where Were You & When” under the $1,600 clue. In second place with $5,200, she had $4,800 less than Maria’s lead. She bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Maria finished in the lead with $12,800. Erika was next with $11,400 and Alex was in third place with $3,800.

Erika also got it. Her $3,600 bet brought her up to $15,000.

Maria wrote down dentistry, then crossed that out in favor of diplomacy. That cost her $9,000 (and a Wild Card spot if she had stood pat). She finished with $3,800.

    That’s only the second known time a FInal J! category had a word in quotation marks. 12/9/2011 had the category “First” phrases.

    and whitney got REALLY lucky. all wild card amounts are higher than her win on monday (i am still shaking my head over that triple miss).
