Final Jeopardy: Playwrights (12-25-15)

The Final Jeopardy question (12/25/2015) in the category “Playwrights” was:

He wrote the line “Our home has been nothing but a playroom”.

Our current one-day champ is Markus Kolic. He won $15,300 yesterday and that was his pre-FJ runaway score. Today he takes on these two players: Dee Daigle, from Hebron, CT; and Emily Poole, from Hendersonville, NC.

Round 1: Markus found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Brewing Beer” under the $1,000 clue. He was in second place with $2,800, $400 less than Dee’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double and thought it was lager & porter. That was WRONG.

The two basic types of brewing yeast are top fermenting and bottom fermenting, corresponding to these two basic kinds of beer, one including stouts and one including pilsners . show

Emily finished in the lead with $4,000. Dee was second with $3,600 and Markus was last with $2,400.

Round 2: Markus found the first Daily Double in “What Happened When” under the $2,000 clue. He was in third place with $2,800, $5,200 less than Emily’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double again and this time, he was RIGHT.

Chief Justice Roger Taney announced the Supreme Court’s decision in this slave’s case. show

Markus found the last Daily Double in “The Largest Country…” under the $800 clue, with one $400 clue left on the board after it. In the lead with $14,400, he had $4.800 more than Dee in second place. He bet $5,000 and he was RIGHT.

Markus gave an incorrect response on that last clue and Dee got it right. As a result, Markus ended the round with $19,000. Dee had $10,000 and Emily was in third place with $8,800.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS HENRIK IBSEN?

Nora Helmer, the main character in Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House,” utters the line in the clue to her husband, Torvald, after deciding to leave him and their three children, in a little speech about how he and her father screwed up her life. See No. 10 in A Doll’s House: Top Ten Quotes

Emily wrote down Ionescu but crossed it out and went with Edward Albee. She bet everything but $1.00 so that is what she had left.

Dee got it right. Her $9,001 bet brought her up to $19,001.

Markus came up with Eugene O’Neill. He lost his $1,001 bet so he ended up with $17,999. And so, the one and done trend continues and Dee Daigle will be the returning champ on Monday.

Someone uploaded the game to youtube in four parts. Don’t know how long it will be there. Also, Markus answered some questions on reddit about that $400 clue and his beard.

Markus underwagering $601 on the DD on the 29th clue of DJ! and then negging on the 30th clue cost him a lock game and essentially gave Dee the win:)

Thanks so much, VJ, I am so appreciative of your efforts.. I don’t know what I would do without you!! Why couldn’t we have had Jeopardy for Christmas here in NY?
I am surprised that only 1 person knew the FJ.

Your welcome, Rhonda. I wish I knew why some of these stations can’t have a programming notes page on their website. I think a few do, but not mine. Some folks didn’t even know it was preempted. I only did because I was going to my daughter’s and checked to see if I should ask her to record it for me.

As for FJ, I wonder if Markus and Emily would have fared better if the category was European Playwrights, but I guess the cluewriters thought playhouse was good enough (and I don’t disagree)

This is what I was able to cobble together for today’s show even though I have still not seen the match. As soon as I can, I will put in the missing elements and fix it all up.

As for my prediction, pffffft! I thought playhouse was instant word association for dollhouse but I was WRONG!
