Final Jeopardy: Shakespeare

The Final Jeopardy question (12/19/2012), in the category “Shakespeare” was:

The last speech in this play says, “No grave upon the earth shall clip in it a pair so famous.”

Current champ Susan Jann has racked up a 2-day total of $42,400. Let’s see how she fares today against these two players: Jeannie Blanke, from Newbury Park, CA and Justin Kowal, from Glen Burnie, MD.

Jeannie found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Mything in Action.” She was in third place, in the hole to the tune of $800. $5,000 less than Justin in the lead. She bet $600, guessed “Greece” and that was WRONG.

Oh, the heartache! After the hero Aeneas left her, Dido the Queen of this land took her own life.

WHAT IS CARTHAGE?

Susan finished in the lead with $7,000. Justin was second with $5,200 and Jeannie was still in the hole to the tune of $800.

Jeannie found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “Medical Etymology.” She had $0, $7,400 behind Susan’s lead, but at least she wasn’t in the hole. She bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

From the Greek for coal, it’s transmitted by farm animals contaminated wool & biological weapons.

Justin found the last Daily Double in “A Little Lit.” He had $12,000, $$4,200 less than Susan’s lead. He bet $2,400, but did not know so he was WRONG.

Umberto Eco wrote a parody of this novel having Umberto Umberto fall for the aged granita.

WHAT IS “LOLITA”?

Susan finished in the lead with $17,400. Justin was next with $11,600 and Jeannie was in third place with $3,400.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS ANTONY & CLEOPATRA?

We were all set to moan about how this was another clue they made much less challenging by asking for the name of the play,when they could have asked for the name of the speaker. Apparently, it was already more of a challenge than we thought.

Jeannie got it right. She bet $3,000. He finished with $6,400.

Justin wrote down “Troilus & Cressida” (who don’t die). That cost him $5,801 and he finished with $5,799.

Susan wrote down “Romeo & Juliet” (who may be famous to us, but we doubt everyone in Verona knew who they were until they died.) She bet $6,000, finishing with $11,400. Susan remains champ with a 3-day total of $53,800.
