New champ Chuck Dunn won $22,400 last Friday. Today he goes for a second win as he takes on these two players: Kat Lewin, from Irvine, CA; and Georjean McKeeman, from Prescott, AZ.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS UTAH?

The California sea gull became the state bird of Utah by virtue of a traditional Mormon account called “The Miracle of the Seagulls,” (or just Miracle of the Gulls, sometimes). How the gulls saved Mormon pioneer crops in 1848 is recounted in this video and on BYU’s Harold B. Lee Library. Wikipedia’s article on it and a critical analysis claiming that the event was not even called a “Miracle” until “up to 30 years after it occurred.” is presented on MormonThink.com

Georjean got it right. She bet $7,990, bringing her up to $15,990.

Kat thought it was Nevada. She lost her $6,199 bet and had $8,001 left.

Chuck had the same response as Kat. He lost $12,001, finishing with $4,399. That made Georjean the new Jeopardy! champ. It was all the more inspiring because Georjean lost her $1600 from the first round on the 4th clue of the second round and had to start all over. Never give up!

Congrats Georjean. You showed it pays to travel a lot on that fj clue.

VJ, what did I say about stay at home moms? 🙂

Never will forget the “retired homemaker” contestant. That was funny. She was serious about it too.

Jeopardy hasn’t come on for me yet, but on Friday my area got a repeat of the Thursday episodes. Seems like someone is mixing tapes around.

I am so confused! First, Alex saying today’s Election Day, and then I really thought I was losing it when I didn’t recognize Georjean.

      • VJ says:

Wow. I guess a lot of people will complain to the station and they will run tonight’s game at another time. In the meantime, the prayers of people who didn’t want to get preempted on Election Day were answered, even if by mistake.

        • rhonda says:

Yes, I should call the station tomorrow to complain and see if they have any answers about when/if tonight’s game will be shown.

  3. rhonda says:

We had a totally different game here, and Alex said that he hoped everyone voted today. I don’t understand what happened? The FJ was Commonwealth Countries.

  4. aaaa says:

NBC is doing an hour long NBC nightly news tonight, so J! and/or WOF will be preempted on the East Coast on NBC stations where it airs at 7PM EST if the NBC station chooses to air the full hour. Don’t know if CBS or ABC has hour long nightly news on some stations as the local station here chose not to air the full hour.

    Congratulations, Georjean!

  6. VJ says:

Well, those were the 2 states I came up with this morning, only like Kat and Chuck, I went with Nevada. Congrats to Georjean.

I was just looking up types of gulls since it can’t be a California Gull (larus californicus) that stole my cheesesteak on an NJ beach one summer. I found out that they have a Bonaparte Gull (larus philadelphia) that was named after a nephew of Napoleon. It can’t be that one though.

Maybe it was the Laughing Gull (larus atricilla). It wasn’t funny, you big thief.

    • rhonda says:

I went with Nevada, too, VJ.

      • VJ says:

I guess the gulls flew right over Nevada because they knew the insects were tastier over in Utah, Rhonda. LOL
