ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS EEYORE?

Chapter VI of A.A. Milne’s 1926 children’s classic “Winnie the Pooh” relates the tale of Eeyore’s birthday. There are many readings of the chapter on youtube. Here is a link to a good one, starting at the 5.36 mark, where the sentence in the clue is spoken. Norman Shelley, the reader, sings “Cottleston Pie” very well around the 1.44 mark. It was not the first chapter of the book about Eeyore. He lost his tail in Chapter IV.

“I’m going to begin by complimenting myself,” Alex Trebek said before revealing the responses, “and saying that my impressions of literary animals must be really really good because these 3 players wrote down their responses in about the first 3 seconds!”

Sharon bet $7,188. That brought her up to $14,388.

Vivek bet it all and finished with $17,600.

Rachel bet $6,499 bringing her up to today’s winning total of $21,799 and making her the new Jeopardy! champ.

I rewound to hear Alex Trebek say that his late mother liked knitting.I had not heard that she passed away.

  2. aaaa says:

Alex mentioned his late mother was a knitting when talking to Sharon about her knitting. I know Alex wished his Mom, Lucille Lagace Trebek, a happy 95th birthday last April 14th. She must have passed in the last few months, but it was never mentioned anywhere until last night’s episode, which probably taped in September.

I wasn’t paying attention when Alex was talking to the contestants yesterday. I remember when he wished his mom a happy 95th birthday but didn’t know she’d passed away recently.

    • jacob ska says:

Wow. Thanks aaaa. I didn’t pay close attention to the chat. I thought she was still alive too, but, I googled after reading your post. If her name was Lucille Trebek she is dead.

Skeptical about what I read on the Internet. But, if Alex said it she must be deceased. That was kept quiet.

    • VJ says:

Very sad. As long as I can recall, Alex saluted his Mom on her birthday on the show, even if it fell on the weekend. I remember writing on the 4/14 recap that it was a very emotional shout out for her 95th birthday.

(That was Margaret Miles’ game LINK)

Alex impression of Eeyore was very good imo. It was funny watching how the contestants began to write immediately.

VJ, this has been a good week for you on predictions. Congrats on the 3/3 call.

    • VJ says:

Thanks Jacob though that was an easy one. I’m sure the players would have gotten it even if Alex saved his impression till after the results.

Couldn’t help wondering if Mathwiz would have predicted a new champ today. I was surprised that things went downhill for Vivek after that true DD. Anyhow, I miss those predictions from Mathwiz. Hope everything is okay if you read this.

I liked that “Some People Call Me Maurice” category. LOL. It had me singing “The Joker’

@Cece – I thought of you — that you might hate it if Chevalier came up in it 😉

There are a dozen clues from this match online now

PS – I took the liberty of changing the ampersands in the clue to the word “and” because they put the whole thing in quotes. I have previously noticed that they write the word out when it is part of a quote. Don’t know why they didn’t do it this time.

    • lou says:

Good job in changing it. And also Vivek played a great game. I can’t wait to see what Rachel will do in her second game before the Teen Tournament starts. Also Eeyore is a character in Winnie the Pooh. When I was younger I watched a lot of it on television (Can’t remember if it was on Nick Jr or some other channel) How much do your kids remember Winnie the Pooh?

      • VJ says:

@Lou, had to be Disney Channel that you were watching it on. They had the rights and far as I know, still do. There was a challenge some years ago, if you want to read about The 80-Year Struggle For Control Over Winnie The Pooh. LINK. Fascinating stuff. Disney eventually won.

Can anyone ever forget Tigger? People still say TTFN. LOL.

My daughter actually started out with a Pooh bear theme for her twins but ended up with all Mickey and Minnie stuff because the babies really like those two.

        • lou says:

Oh those were great times back in the old days when winnie the pooh was on disney. Its grown popular to many young kids now.

I grew watching winnie the pooh but switched to dragonball z later on in the 90s. Do you remember the goku response from an earlier jeopardy episode ? That kind of gave the audience a laugh even though it wasnt the correct response but still old school shows should be back on television networks.

        • VJ says:

@Lou, I do remember that goku/godzilla FJ. LOL. I guess “old school” depends on what generation you’re in. ha ha. I really have a long memory for some of my favorite cartoons and most of the time, it’s because of a song in it. But idk what age group would even find them amusing these days. Like Popeye Meets Sindbad the Sailor. LINK That one is pretty wild. I always remembered it because of the song.

Maybe I will put up a post of some of my favorites if I can find a few more.

    • Cece says:

VJ, I was actually surprised Chevalier didn’t come up. Speaking of Chevalier, my bf’s mother (my mother-out-of-law? my outlaw mother?) kept complaining that Vivek mumbled and she couldn’t understand his answers. I guess she needed French subtitles.

I second you on Mathwiz; I miss him too and hope he’s OK.

I like big bucks and I cannot lie…lol!

      • VJ says:

Cece, I like outlaw mother. LOL. Funny, I looked up Maurice in English wikipedia. They usually show you a list of the most looked at pages starting with the name you put in. So after their page for the name Maurice, they have Maurice Gross (a French linguist I never heard of before), then Maurice Gibb. They don’t even have Chevalier on their name page, but they do have Steve Miller – “some people call him Maurice.”

I looked it up in French wikipedia and their top Maurice after their name page is the infamous Maurice Papon. They have Chevalier on their name page, but they don’t have Steve Miller. 🙂
