The Final Jeopardy question (11/29/2016) in the category “Literature” was:

In 2009 Amazon remotely deleted unauthorized copies of this 1949 novel from some customers’ Kindles.

2x champ Justin Bender has now won $20,799. It’s his third match today and his opponents are: Jennifer Berry, from Indianapolis, IN; and Dan Chafetz, from Essex Junction, VT.

Round 1 Categories: Winning! – Kids’ Books – Rhyme Time – Octopi-pourri – Cornerstones – Take the “A” Training

Justin found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Cornerstones” under the $1,000 clue. There were 8 clues left after it. He was in the lead with $4,400, $600 more than Dan in second place. He made it a true Daily Double and took a shot with Massachusetts. That was WRONG.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “1984”?

In July of 2009, Amazon deleted unauthorized copies of George Orwell’s “1984” (1949) and “Animal Farm” (1945) due to copyright issues. This brought about quite a flurry of “Big Brother” headlines, or as Peter Glaskowsky subtitled his “Making Sense of the Kindle Kerfluffle” article on CNET: “Amazon remotely deleted pirated copies of ‘1984’ and ‘Animal Farm’ it unintentionally sold to Kindle owners, and suddenly everyone from CNET to The New York Times is in an uproar.”

Amazon was even sued over this incident by a high school student who lost his study notes. Check out what happened.

Jennifer got it right. She bet $1,800 bet, bringing her up to $7,400.

Dan didn’t have a response. He lost his $9,999 bet and had $1 left.

Justin also got it right. He bet $4,801 and won this match with $20,001. His 3-day total is $40,800.

    • VJ says:

I read it when I was a teenager but I was already out of high school, Lou. What I remember most about it is my brother going around claiming he was the Thought Police. LOL.

lol i know right? Such a great novel and that joke was so funny. Also that 9999 bet from dan was a little overboard. he should have stayed at zero and not bet anything. I wonder if justins style of play is like fred vaughn

idk if it was because I am very tired today, but it seemed like the clues were being read slower than usual to me. Anyway, they only had a few uncovered clues and I only came up with a total of 7 triple stumpers (only one from the first round).
