The Final Jeopardy question (10/31/2012), in the category “The Constitutional Convention” was:
New York’s delegates were John Lansing, Robert Yates & this founding father, the only one of the 3 who signed.
Keith Whitener has been on quite a roll. He’s a 5-day champ with total winnings of $100,397. Today he will go for a 6th win against these two new players: Hillary Meyer, from Middletown, NY and Barry Peterson, from El Paso, TX.
Keith found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Name That Speechmaker.” He was in the lead with $3,400, $1,600 more than Barry in second place. He bet $1,000 and he was RIGHT, in good part, Keith agreed, thanks to Alex Trebek’s voice impression.
& you know, the kids, like all kids, love the dog & …regardless of what they say about it, we’re gonna keep him..
Keith finished in the lead with $8,000. Barry was second with $4,000 and Hillary was last with $1,200.
Barry found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “Outside.” He was in second place with $6,800, $4,800 less than Keith in the lead. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.
Believe it or not, the smooth soft-shelled species of this reptile can often outrun a man on level ground..
Barry found the last Daily Double in “World Exploration.” He was still in second place but now had $9,200, $8,800 less than Keith’s lead. He bet $1,000, but did not know so he was WRONG.
On April 9, 1682, this Frenchman reached the mouth of the Mississippi & named the area Louisiana.
Keith finished in the lead with $16,800. Barry was was next with $9,000 and Hillary was in third place with $7,600.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
“In 1787 (Alexander) Hamilton served in the legislature, which appointed him as a delegate to the convention. He played a surprisingly small part in the debates, apparently because he was frequently absent on legal business, his extreme nationalism put him at odds with most of the delegates, and he was frustrated by the conservative views of his two fellow delegates from New York. He did, however, sit on the Committee of Style, and he was the only one of the three delegates from his state who signed the finished document.” (Founding Fathers: New York)
Hillary got it right. She bet $7,100 and finished with $14,700.
Barry wrote down Clinton (the governor of New York State at the time). He lost his $6,500 bet and finished with $2,500.
Keith also got it right and added $1,201 to win today’s game with $18,001.
Apparently, that Final Jeopardy! wasn’t as big a stumper as we thought. Kudos to Hillary and Keith for getting it right and kudos to Keith on his 6-day total, which is now $118,398. In terms of winnings, Keith Whitener just passed David Menchacha AND Joel Pool on the Top 12 TOC Candidates.
