Soul and R&B singer, Faith Evans was arrested at a checkpoint near Marina Del Rey, on Saturday, August 21st, on suspicion of misdemeanor drunken driving. Los Angeles Police Officer Cleon Joseph told the L.A. Times that Ms. Evans’ was taken into custody at 10:40 p.m., her car was impounded and she was released on bail Sunday morning.
The singer has recently been making the rounds to promote her upcoming project “Something About Faith.”
Ms. Evans also got in some trouble with the law back in 2004 when she and her husband, Todd Russaw, were arrested on drug possession charges in Atlanta. Ms. Evans was allowed to participate in a pretrial drug-abuse intervention program, resulting in the charges being dropped.
Born in Florida but raised in New Jersey, Faith Evans first began working in the entertainment business as a songwriter and background singer. She later became the first female to be signed to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy label. Her debut album in 1995 went to No. 2 on the R&B charts, spawning 3 popular singles, including a duet with Mary J. Blige, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.” She then married rapper Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace (also known as Biggie Smalls), 9 days after they met. After Biggie was murdered in 1997, Faith Evans contributed vocals to Sean Combs’ tribute song “I’ll Be Missing You.”
Ms. Evans has been nominated for Grammys several times, for her 1998 single “Love Like This,” for her contributions to Whitney Houston’s “Heartbreak Hotel” album; and for her third album, “Faithfully.”
