We’re guessing that Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria happy Spring Training is ending. The house that Longoria was sharing with team mates David Price and Reid Brignac in Port Charlotte, Florida was burglarized March 26th. No one was home at the time, but the burglars took an estimated $56,000 worth of electronics and expensive watches in the break in. This was the second time Longoria was the victim of theft; earlier this spring, Evan’s classic 1967 Camaro was stolen from a lot in Arizona.
Oh there was one more thing stolen in the Florida burglary that caught everyone’s attention: Longoria’s AK-47 rifle.
Evan declined comment on the rifle, saying it was “a personal item” and letting it go at that. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said the gun was “perfectly legal” and “fully documented”.
We’re not familiar with Florida’s gun laws but we assume this was a semi automatic version, and not a fully automatic one, and Longoria was well within his rights to own it. Since Longoria declined comment, we’ll assume Evan is a gun enthusiast who likes to target shoot, as do many other owners of this weapon, as it’s not typically used for hunting. Of course, it could also effectively be used for self defense.
We hope that whatever purpose Longoria has for this type of rifle, he knows how to safely handle it, so he doesn’t become the next Plaxico Burress and accidently shoot himself in the leg. Or accidently blast a hole in his refrigerator.
