Emu Hotfoots It Down the Road in Israel

What would you do if you were driving down the road and all of a sudden an emu came running by? We saw this story about an escaped emu running through traffic on a main road in the Israeli town of Herzliya (near Tel Aviv) and it just looked so funny, the first thing that came to mind was that someone must have put a song to it but nobody did. First we thought it would be cool with Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.” But you’ve got to agree that Matthew Wilder’s “Break My Stride” would go with it so much better.

“Ain’t nothin’ gonna break my stride
Nobody’s gonna slow me down,
Oh no, I got to keep on movin’
Ain’t nothin’ gonna break my stride
I’m running and I won’t touch ground
Oh no, I got to keep on movin'”

Local authorities said that the bird escaped from a private farm and was returned safely to it owner after they were able to catch up with it.

According to Bird’s Lifestyle, “The mature emu is 5 to 6 feet tall and normally weighs 90 to 120 pounds. They are flightless and strong runners, reaching ground speeds of up to 40 miles per hour in short bursts and covering about nine feet in stride.” So at least it wasn’t speeding.
