New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes and ran for one more himself as the Saints beat the visiting New York Giants 49-24 on Monday Night Football, wrapping up the NFL action for the Thanksgiving weekend. Brees’ 363 yards passing put him in the league lead for passing yardage this season. New Orleans is 8-3 and holds a one game lead over the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South, while New York lost its third in a row to fall to 6-5, one game behind the Dallas Cowboys.
The Saints also rushed for 205 yards, rolling up 577 total yards on the Giants’ hapless defense. Giants quarterback Eli Manning actually passed for more yards than Brees, completing 33 of 47 for 406 yards and two touchdowns. Manning has had to pass a lot as the Giants ground game has, well, ground to a halt. The Giants have tended to fade in the latter stages of the season the last couple of years, and it looks like they’re doing it again.
The good news for the Giants is that their next game on December 4th is at home. The bad news is that it’s against the 11-0 Green Bay Packers who have an equally explosive passing game. It looks like another long afternoon for the Giants defense, such as it is. We’re also sure that New York sports talk radio will be awash in calls for the end of the Tom Coughlin coaching regime.
