Dr Phil Gets a First in Manti Hoax

As you know, media today must milk every story as long as possible, squeezing every last bit of coverage out of every possible angle. Whether it’s a scandal, an addiction problem, a crime or a hoax, the big question – WHY – is looked into and talked about by every possible expert or pseudo expert anywhere and everywhere. Most of the time, we never really know why, but that doesn’t matter as much as being first on any given angle. That’s very important and Dr. Phil McGraw has done just that with the Manti Te’o girlfriend hoax.

Katie Couric was the first talk show to get a live interview with Manti, which was kind of a breath of fresh air, don’cha think, because who wanted Oprah to get it?  But, now that Manti is used talk show goods, Dr. Phil surely didn’t want to delve into his bruised pysche.

No, Dr. Phil decided he would go with another angle and be the first person to interview Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the California man alleged to be behind the hoax.

Stacey Luchs, senior vice president of communications for CBS, told Jeffrey Martin of USA TODAY Sports that the interview has already taken place and will be aired at a date to be announced.

Tuiasosopo is the one who supposedly created the fictional girlfriend Lennay Kekua, of Manti Te’o. The Hawaiian football linebacker then engaged in the romance of his young life, without ever meeting the object of his affection, until her untimely (fake) demise.

You go, Dr. Phil. Moo.
