That title certainly has been true of the last four weeks with the passing of many big names in show business beginning with David Carradine, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Gale Storm and now Karl Malden.
Now, you might say that Karl Malden was almost 100 years old, and that’s true, but we don’t think many people even realized how old Karl was. Karl was such a prolific actor that fans of classic movies saw him in many roles all the time. It may be a bit of an overstatement to say that Karl was in everything! But it sures seems like it. Karl was in A LOT more things than A Streetcar Named Desire and On the Watefront. He was in Ruby Gentry, The Birdman of Alcatraz, Parrish, Baby Doll (a very risque movie for 1956), Dead Ringer with Bette Davis, and even Pollyanna:
">These were all great movies and this extraordinarily versatile actor was in many more, as well as TV series, TV movies and of course, the American Express commercials.
You can check that out his many credits on his IMDB profile.
Karl Malden married his wife Mona in 1938 and they had one of the longest marriages in show biz history (maybe even in any circles), celebrating their 70th anniversary last December. The Maldens had two daughters, Mila and Carla. Carla co-authored her father’s autobiography When Do I Start?: A Memoir.
