Cubs’ Jake Arrieta No Hits the Dodgers

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta has been having an excellent season, but his name hasn’t been in the discussion much as a candidate for the National League Cy Young Award, especially in a crowded field that includes the Dodgers’ Zack Greinke (14-3, 1.61 ERA, 164 strikeouts) and Clayton Kershaw (11-6, 2.24, 236); the New York Mets’ Jacob deGrom (12-7, 2.32, 171), and the Pirates’ Gerrit Cole (15-7, 2.44, 166). But in Los Angeles on Sunday night August 30th, Arrieta earned a seat at the table, pitching a no hitter against the Dodgers as the Cubs beat L.A. 2-0. The Dodgers were also no hit just ten days earlier by Houstons’ Mike Fiers.

Arrieta had a red hot August, going 6-0 with a microscopic ERA of 0.43. He is now 17-6 on the season, with a 2.11 ERA and 190 strikeouts. He leads the majors in victories, and is second in the majors in ERA behind Greinke. The Cubs are a likely Wild Card team, barring a late season collapse (although that’s not unheard of, this being the Cubs).
