Cleveland Indians Beat Detroit 9-3 for 9th Straight Win and 9th in a Row over Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are probably sick of playing the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland beat Detroit 9-3 in Detroit on June 26th, sweeping a three game weekend set in the Motor City. It was the ninth straight win this season for Cleveland over its American League Central rival to the north; Cleveland also has a nine winning streak. The Indians, who are having a great 1st half of the season, improved to 44-30 on the season after games of June 26th, good for a five game lead in the A.L Central.

Cleveland pounded out four homers in the fifth inning against Justin Verlander. Right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall led the way at the plate for the Indians, going 4 for 4 with a triple plus one of the home runs. and three RBIs. Starter Mike Tomlin got the win to move his record to 9-1 with a 3.32 ERA. The 31 year old right hander is having a career year, and is one of the big reasons for the Indians’ success this season.

The bad news for the Tigers is that they aren’t even half done playing the Indians this season. There are 10 games remaining between the two, including a three game series in Cleveland July 4th-6th.
