Chipper Jones and the Bratwurst Parting Gift

When baseball players who are Hall of Fame caliber are known to be retiring, it isn’t unusual for opposing clubs to give those players acknowledgments and gifts when they make their final appearances in those opposition ballparks.  Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones announced before the season that he would be hanging ‘em up at the end of 2012, so he’s been on a farewell tour of sorts this season.

On his farewell stop in Milwaukee, a reporter asked Jones what he’s like as a parting gift.  Jones replied “bratwurst”.  No doubt the 40 year old Jones, who has been in the majors since 1993 has sampled one of Miller Park’s signature sausages with the awesome Secret Stadium Sauce many times over the years.  Jones’ wish was the Brewers’ command, and before the start of the September 12th Braves – Brewers game, the future Hall of Famer was presented with a new gas grill and what was described as year’s supply of bratwurst.  Jones, who has four sons, said of the bratwurst “I love them.  We all do.”

Let’s see, what is a year’s supply of bratwurst for five guys?  We anticipate a semi truck load will be heading to Chipper’s house.
