Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for violations of league policies during the Bengals- Philadelphia Eagles preseason game August 20th . The NFL prohibits the use of cell phones, computers, and any other electronic devices by players or coaches from 90 minutes before kickoff until the end of the game. Hmmm, must have gotten that policy from the airlines. The league also has a social media policy prohibiting players and coaches from posting anything on Twitter, Facebook, or any social media site from 90 minutes before kickoff until after completion of all post game media obligations- essentially, until after the post game press conferences. Ochocinco’s violations consisted of tweeting twice, once at 6:50 P.M. or 70 minutes before the 8:07 P.M. kickoff, and once during the game at 9:53. Based on the size of the fine, this is a big deal to the NFL.
Chad Ochocinco apologized for his infractions- on Twitter. “Dear NFL” he tweeted “I apologize for tweeting during the game but that was 2 months of my Bugatti payments you just took from me, I won’t do it again”. Ochocinco was fined $67,500 last season for various league transgressions.
This year, the Bengals also have Terrell Owens on the team so there will be no shortage of Tweetable moments. Just don’t Tweet at game time, guys.
