Well, here’s today’s example of how no good deed goes unpunished. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has a breakfast cereal called, appropriately enough, Ochocincos. The charity Feed the Children receives financial support from sales of Ochocincos. The phone number of the charity is listed on the box for those interested in contacting this worthy cause. Sounds like a good idea. Well, it is a good idea, except for a little snafu that developed.
It turns out that the toll free telephone number listed on the box that is supposed to connect callers to Feed the Children has the wrong prefix. Instead, callers are sent to a telephone sex line where a woman answers and says– well, you get the idea. (No we did not call the number to verify this).
Chad Ochocinco apologized for the mixup and said it was an “honest mistake”. He hoped the incident could be turned into something positive and help the charity get noticed. Meanwhile, Kroger’s, the grocery store chain that sells Ochocincos, was pulling the cereal off the shelves until the Pittsburgh based supplier could ship boxes with the correct phone number.
