Californication: Levon is still in that phase

Julia gets a job

Getting back with Karen was just not one of Hank’s priorities this week. He spent much of his time with Julia, the Queen of Mixed Signals — I shouldn’t, I should. Don’t, do. It’s too soon. It’s not. Go, stay.

Julia gets an acting job in “Dicks” (Californication Ep 4, S7, 5-2-2014). Yes, that was name of the episode. It mainly had to do with Levon’s penchant for exposing himself. Previously, Julia told Hank it was a phase. When Levon asked Hank for advice on how to hit on Melanie, Hank told him to let his intentions be known but not to do anything creepy, like expose himself. Levon was quite outraged that his mother told Hank that one but did not follow Hank’s advice at all, so it doesn’t look like that phase will ever be over until someone disabuses him of the notion that any girl who sees his “gift” will automatically want to hop in the sack with him.

Speaking of letting your intentions be known, Rick Rath does just that, asking Hank if he has a problem with Rick pursuing Julia, a “hit of pure sunshine.” Hank says no, no plans to rekindle, but points out her son works there and is not going to be happy if he finds out Rath is banging his mom. Rath doesn’t care. After all, Levon works for him, not the other way around. So Julia gets a role on “Santa Monica Cop” but she goes out to celebrate with Hank and Levon.

Speaking of pursuing, Charlie Runkle wants Goldie to be his client. Problem is, she has a manager her friends call “Old Balls.” He’s impotent, Goldie confides, much to Charlie’s chagrin. But she is willing to break it off with “Old Balls” if Charlie will help her get the show out from under Rick Rath, and she puts Charlie in a little dilemma that he has to take care of in the men’s room. Either “nutty” Goldie (allergic or not, that’s what they should call her) turns Charlie on or he’s still popping the viagra.

Levon has to leave the celebration when he gets called in to work to help Melanie. The TV director that has been hitting on Melanie sends Levon out for lattes and when he returns he finds the two of them in flagrante delicto. Levon blurts out Hank’s opinion that the director is on the way down while Levon is on the way up. A fight ensues which ends with Levon being a “sick bastard.” The furious director leaves and Melanie tells Levon he is only a P.A. The director has a home and a car. That’s when he decides to show Melanie his assets. She is impressed but it’s still no sale.

In the meantime, Julia has taken Hank to the dental office for teeth cleaning that leads to kissing and just as they are kissing, Levon calls. According to Julia, that’s another one of Levon’s bad habits. “He’s such a little cock-blocker.” They return to Julia’s to deal with their wild man-child, then Julia starts with the mixed signals yet again.
