Brooklyn Museum to Honor Miss Piggy

The Brooklyn Museum has announced that it will be honoring Miss Piggy, the “ultimate diva and star of stage and screen” in an awards ceremony that will be held on June 4, 2015.

The awards are given out annually to women “who have broken gender barriers and made remarkable contributions in their fields.” Miss Piggy’s award puts her in the company of such luminaries as Associate Justice
Sandra Day O’Connor, Connie Chung, Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, the late Chief Wilma Mankiller and Toni Morrison. Kermit the Frog will watch from the audience as Brooklyn Museum Board Chair and founder of the Sackler Center First Awards, Elizabeth A. Sackler.

After the flamboyant Muppet gives her acceptance speech, a video of Miss Piggy’s career will be shown and she will then appear on stage for an interview with famed feminist, Gloria Steinem.

This may sound like a joke or publicity stunt to some, but in the Brooklyn Museum’s press release, Ms. Sackler says that “Miss Piggy embodies exceptional spirit, determination, and grit, when needed, which has taught important lessons about overcoming obstacles to … virtually everyone who has ever watched this indomitable character on television or in film.”

Miss Piggy is no stranger to interviews, of course, and has often appeared on talk shows. Here she is on Wendy Williams:
