Blackhawks Beat Montreal for 11th Straight Win

For the first two months or so of the 2015-16 NHL season, the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks were a middle of the pack team in the Central Division.  Perhaps it took a while for the team to fully mesh after some personnel changes over the off season, but the Blackhawks have put it all together now.

On January 17th, the Blackhawks hosted the Montreal Canadiens at the United Center, and Chicago won 5-2 for the team’s 11th straight victory.  This streak ties a team record set in the 2012-13 season, which was also a Stanley Cup winning season.  Chicago improved its record to 31-13-4 (66 points) and is in first place in the Central, five points ahead of second place Dallas.

There were some familiar names leading the way in the scoring.  Jonathan Toews scored two goals, Marian Hossa had a goal and two assists, and Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist.  Kane leads the NHL in both goals scored (29) and assists (40). Goalie Corey Crawford had 27 saves and improved his record to 26-10-2.

Chicago will go for a new team record 12th straight win at Nashville on January 19th.

And they got win #12. The game was on the NBC Sports Network, at least in my area, and they looked good especially Crawford, who had 37 saves.

And it helps that Darling (.915/2.45) gives Crawford a chance to pace himself for the playoffs. Crawford has also made great improvement in stopping the puck totally: when he first started, the puck would bounce back for rebounds a lot.
