There just aren’t enough tributes to Beyonce Knowles, you know — Armdeonce Ventures thinks so and claims are being made it has convinced Annise Parker, Houston’s mayor, to allow them to build another one to the 30-year-old superstar. The plan calls for a “massive hall” and “mini museum” to go with the statue, with video and memorabilia showcasing Beyonce and her former group, Destiny’s Child.
We don’t really know if it’s going to be in the park (just kidding with that title), but the company plans to obtain enough private donations to construct a Beyonce statue and more by September 4, 2012 — just in time for Bey’s 31st birthday.
Armdeonce Ventures’ partner, Marcus Mitchell isn’t exactly saying he’s got approval. He said: “We’ve gotten support from the city of Houston, from the mayor,” and says they are waiting for “a very nice letter from the mayor right now.” The name of the company sounds like Beyonce’s relatives are behind it — with a combination of House of Dereon and Beyonce
Janice Evans, a spokeswoman for the mayor’s office tweeted that it’s not exactly a priority even if Houston is proud of its hometown girl:
“…. The City of Houston is not behind, working with or having anything to do with an effort to build a monument honoring Beyonce,” Evans tweeted, being careful to add that Houston hearts Beyonce.
Readers’ response in the Houston Chronicle was far from enthusiastic:
“what has she ever done for Houston, TX, please try some other city like New York City since she had her baby there not in Houston, TX …”
“What a moronic idea. This woman is SO over exposed and SO over rated …”
Well, moronic idea or not, if they build it, they will come … especially if Beyonce shows up at its unveiling.
