Beyonce Caught Copycatting Again

Wow! When you look at this you just have to say, WTF? Beyonce Knowles hasn’t commented yet on “rumors” that she and Adria Petty ripped off Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s work to make her new video.

Petty, for her part, has “admitted” that they were inspired by some European works. “I brought Beyonce a number of references and we picked some out together. Most were German modern-dance references, believe it or not. But it really evolved,” she said in an interview published around the same time the video was premiered.

De Keersmaeker does not quite see it as inspiration. In an interview with a Danish blog, she deemed it plagiarism:

“This is stealing. They took pieces from Achterland and Rosas danst Rosas. … It’s a bit rude, I must say,” she said pointing out that they don’t even make an effort to make it seem original and she clearly expected more from a supposed professional like Beyonce: “Look, I’ve seen local school kids doing this. That’s a lot more beautiful.”

It’s hardly the first time Beyonce’s been accused of ripping off other works. Last year, she more or less admitted to copying Italian pop star Lorella Cuccarini by performing a special effect-full set at Billboard Music Awards. She claimed to have been “inspired so much.”

And remember the “If I Were a Boy” caper a few years ago?

Here’s what we think Beyonce and her team really think: that she has so many fans who will love anything she does and rush to her defense, she can rip off anyone she wants. But think about all the money this woman is rolling in. It’s shameless and ridiculous. Hire someone to create something original.
