Beggin’ (Frankie Valli video re-mix)

Beggin’ is a 1967 song from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons that really wasn’t all that popular in its own time – it did reach #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, but was never considered one of the Seasons biggest hits.

In 2007, French musician Pilooski, re-edited and released his version of the song on the 2nd of June. This version reached #32 in the UK and #1 on the UK Dance Chart. It’s the first single of the album Beggin’ The Ultimate Collection. The same year the Norwegian hip hop band Madcon released their version of the song. This version reached the #1 position of the Norwegian VG Music Charts.

Beggin’ was written by Bob Gaudio and Peggy Farina.

Bob Gaudio was one of the Four Seasons (the tallest one) who already had success with a song he co-wrote called “Short Shorts” (#3 in 1958) popularized by a group he formed called The Royal Teens.

Bob Gaudio wrote or co-wrote many of the Four Seasons’ songs, including their greatest hits such as Sherry, Walk Like A Man and Rag Doll. He’s also credited on Valli’s solo hit Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.

Peggy Farina was one of The Angels, the 60s girl group with the huge hey-la hey-la hit My Boyfriend’s Back.

A note on the lyrics: Some lyric sites seem to have the “easy come” part of this song wrong.

They’ve got: You walked away, won me then.
But easy come and easy go. And it would end

Maybe it’s Frankie’s North Jersey accent, but really, “won me” doesn’t make any sense.

We think it’s: You walked away, warned me then
That easy come and easy go, and it would end.

She warned him, but he kept playing it hard and fast so she left him, see … and now he’s beggin’ her to come back.
