Opening Day of the baseball season is here. Actually, Opening Days, since some teams open March 31st and some on April 1st. A sign that spring is really here, even though it snowed in places like Cincinnati the day before the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds game. The Powers that Be of Major League Baseball decided that they didn’t want the World Series running into November, so to fit the regular and post seasons in before that, they are starting March 31st.
Opening Day is special to the players as well. For all the talk of how baseball is a business and all that, it’s still a game, and the guys on the field get a thrill going out there on the field. Take a look at this video from ESPN:
On Opening Day, every team has the same 0-0 record and has the same chance at the post season, whether they are the New York Yankees or the Pittsburgh Pirates, We’re kidding of course, the Pirates were officially out of the race in February. The Pirates open on the road, but were betting they have a big crowd anyway when they have their home opener April 7th.
