Awesome Aaron Rodgers Keeps Packers in Playoff Hunt

Published on December 27, 2010 by Sport Team   ·   No Comments

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers returned to action after missing two games due to a concussion and picked up right where he left off, passing for 404 yards and four touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers clobbered the New York Giants 45-17 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay December 26th.  The win was huge for the Packers as they now control their own destiny as far as a playoff berth goes.  If they win their final regular season game against the Chicago Bears, they will clinch a Wild Card.  The Bears have already won the NFC North.

Rodgers completed passes to nine different receivers.  Greg Jennings caught seven for 142 yards, Jordy Nelson had four catches for 124 yards, including an 80 yard touchdown play. Rodgers also threw touchdown passes to James Jones, Donald Lee, and John Kuhn.  Kuhn also scored two rushing touchdowns.  The 404 passing yards were a regular season career high for Aaron Rodgers and the four touchdown passes tied his career high.  He threw no interceptions.  His counterpart on the Giants, Eli Manning, was picked off four times.  The Giants also fumbled twice, and generally still looked dazed and confused after that shocking loss to Philadelphia in their previous game.

Elsewhere in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers were eliminated from playoff contention and marked the occasion by firing coach Mike Singletary; the New York Jets lost for the third time in four games but clinched a playoff berth because Jacksonville lost; and the Kansas City Chiefs completed a remarkable turnaround from worst to first in the AFC West.  They beat Tennessee 34-14 while the San Diego Chargers lost to Cincinnati and were eliminated from the playoff picture.  In Cleveland, Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed got two close to a sideline heater and set his jacket on fire.  The Ravens have been on fire themselves, beating the Browns 20-10 for their third win in a row, and remained tied for first place with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.  And to top it all off, the big blizzard in the northeast forced the postponement of the Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night game until Tuesday.  It will be the first NFL game on a Tuesday since 1946.  Even though they were snowed out, the Giants loss to the Packers gave the Eagles the championship of the NFC East.

Just another wacky week in the NFL.
