In a lunch interview with Matthew Garrahan for the Financial Times, Angelina Jolie revealed that her future plans include less time on the silver screen and possibly more behind the camera.
“I’ve never not been grateful to be an actor,” the 36-year old star commented, “But I think when I was younger I needed [acting] more. I was trying to question things in life so you find these characters that help you find things and grow.” She added that being older, she now knows who she is “and I’m less interested in the character helping me answer something …than in being able to answer it for myself, as a woman, as an adult, with my family.”
The mother of 6 also said that she loves being a mom far more than acting, and that she also prefers directing to acting. Although reticent about her upcoming directorial debut, “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” she spoke about learning from all the directors that she has worked with, even the ones she didn’t like. She said she learned a lot from Clint Eastwood, particularly “about how to appreciate the members of the crew, empowering them to do their job.” Angelina also said that as she and Brad Pitt get older, they will do fewer films. “I’ve been working for a long time, he’s been working for a long time,” she said. “We’ve had a nice run and I don’t want to be doing this our whole lives. There are a lot of other things to do.”
According to IMDB, Jolie is still attached to the 2013 Cleopatra project in the title role. Brad is currently filming World War Z due out next year. Last month, ComingSoon.com posted pictures of Brad in Malta, and according to The Sun, the entire Jolie-Pitt clan will spend the summer in Cornwall, while Brad shoots scenes on the coast, before heading to Glasgow.
Still, the future does look bright for directing opportunities for Jolie: she was honored with a special award at the Sarajevo film festival on Saturday, July 30th, the honorary Heart of Sarajevo, for her work on “In the Land of Blood and Honey.”
