American Idol: This is Me

Tonight the live shows begin and the contestants were told to be themselves and pick a song that showed who they were. Each contestant was accosted by a camera crew and given 20 seconds to reveal 5 things about themselves that viewers didn’t know. Not all of them could get 5 things out in the 20 seconds but it was a cute idea.

Idol Top 13

We are not going to go through the judges’ exact comments on each one — just the scores with this scoring system: 1 point for each positive review, half a point for mixed reviews.

  • Dexter Roberts: “Aw Naw” by Chris Young. +1
  • Malaya Watson: “Runaway” by Bruno Mars. +1
  • Kristen O’Connor: “Beautiful Disaster” by Kelly Clarkson. +2
  • Ben Briley did an uptempo “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash. +2.5
  • CJ Harris: “Radio” by Darius Rucker. +2.5
  • MK Nobilette: “Satisfaction” by Allen Stone. +2.5
  • Majesty Rose: “Tightrope” by Janelle Monae. +2.5
  • Jena Irene: “The Scientist” by Coldplay. +2.5
  • Alex Preston: “A Beautiful Mess” by Jason Mraz. +2.5
  • Jessica Meuse: “Crow and the Butterfly” by Shinedown. +2.5
  • Emily Piriz: “Glitter In The Air” by Pink. +3
  • Sam Woolf: “Unwell” by Matchbox 20. +1.5
  • Caleb Johnson: “Pressure and Time” by Rival Suns. +3

Seemed like some sound problems were affecting the first three up — everything was sounding out of tune to the judges. We don’t think the judges’ reviews are going to affect the voting much anyway on this one. From where we’re sitting Sam Woolf gave the weakest performance, but going by the screams, we are not even thinking he will be the one going home tomorrow! We’re thinking there’s one too many country boys in this Top 13, so we might be saying goodbye to Dexter Roberts or CJ Harris.
