America Idol Top 8 Redux: Elimination Night, No Save

So here we are back again on the 4/10/14 Elimination with the Top 8 American Idols to watch them get chopped down to 7, and they got right down to brass tacks tonight, after a little segment watching the Top 8 ask each other dumb questions and talk about their show. Caleb commended Dexter on his performance. Sam asked if anybody knew who Ricky Nelson is. We call scripted. Notice he didn’t say he didn’t know who it is, and surely you’ve also noticed Sam’s doting grandparents in the audience. They definitely know who Ricky Nelson is and his father, and his mother, and his brother, so we still think the comparison has been made before.

This week marked the start of the Bottom 2. Strange — because with the same number of idols last week, they had a Bottom 3, but who cares. Even if they have 3, it gets down to 2, then one. The first four called up were Caleb, Jessica, Dexter and CJ. Caleb and Jessica were the first sent to safety, then Dexter. So that left CJ.

Then Alex, Jena, Sam and Malaya and out of those 4, Sam and Malaya were the last two. Sam acted like he couldn’t believe it when he was sent to safety. But wait up! That explains why they didn’t have a Bottom 3 this week, because that would have been Sam’s FOURTH TRIP to the Bottom 3, and then he’s safe, while CJ and Malaya were “only” on their third trip. Heh. Don’t worry, Sam, it won’t be long now all the same.

Malaya Watson

CJ and Malaya were in the Bottom 3 last week with Sam. And he was the one with the lowest votes. But now, thanks to the save, he was safe and one of them definitely was not, and that was Malaya. She performed “I Am Changing”, very close to tears and towards the end, she almost could not finish because she was crying for real by then. Sad, indeed, but we are not going to go into the injustice of it all. What difference does it make in what order Malaya, Sam and CJ go home. The handwriting is on the wall.

Malaya is only 16 years old and she has an incredible voice. We think she just tried too hard and that hurt her in this contest. She has a few years to grow and mature and we’re sure she will do something great with her musical talents. #IdolDisagree is trending on Twitter if it’s any consolation to her fans.

So what are we looking at now? Looks like the Top 5 will be Caleb, Alex, Jessica, Jena and Dexter. At this point, We can see it coming down to Caleb and Alex.
