Alice Walton Arrest

Wal-Mart heiress, Alice Walton was arrested last week for drunk driving in Weatherford, TX, according to the Star-Telegram.

Apparently, she did a little bit too much birthday celebrating and was stopped by a patrolman who saw her speeding along at over 70 mph in a 55 mile zone. After peaking with the 62 year old Walton, Trooper Jeff Davis also suspected that she was an impaired driver and gave her a field sobriety test at the scene.

Walton refused a breath test, but Senior Trooper Gary Rozzell told the press there was no reason for a mandatory blood draw because it was just a routine traffic stop: “We just handled it like any other first-offense DWI, he said.

But is it really a first offense? Media reports state that Walton had a drunk driving conviction in May 1998 in Springdale, Arkansas. When the Texas police checked up on her history, they came up empty. Authorities intend to check further into Alice Walton’s prior history and if it is found out that it’s true she has a prior conviction, her charges will be amended accordingly.

In Texas, a first-offense DWI carries a $2,000 fine, possible jail-time of up to 6 months in jail and license suspension of 90 days. A second-offense will get you a $4,000 fine, up to a year in jail and double the license suspension. In Texas, a DWI cannot be expunged.

Walton’s attorney, Dee J. Kelly has stated the heiress “accepts full responsibility for this unfortunate incident and deeply regrets it.”

No kidding. With a net worth over $20 billion, she certainly has enough moolah for her defense team, but you know what they say … an ounce of prevention …. Next time, call a limo.
