The judges did weigh in on the duets, more or less, although it doesn’t really count, or at least most of the Top 6 contestants probably hope it doesn’t.
Scotty looked like an orphan in the storm while Jennifer Lopez heaped praise on Lauren Alaina for their performance of the Drifter’s epic 1962 hit “Up On the Roof.” Lauren sang her butt off, according to J-Lo, and McCreery did a great job singing second voice.
Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams sang “I Feel the Earth Move,” giving it close to the same treatment as in their performance of “Moanin’.” Steven called Casey “Weird Beard.” Casey is always being complimented for being an original, but weird and original is probably a more apt description for Tyler. He says the weirdest stuff, it’s got to be original.
James Durbin and Jacob Lusk offered up the most entertaining duet with Herman’s Hermits hit song, “I’m Into Something Good.” They even recruited J-Lo for the part of the girl who is everything they’ve been dreaming of. Steven Tyler said he didn’t know where they were going with that. “To church,” James replied.
